Billy Strings Billy Strings In 2019, Billy was voted the International Bluegrass Music Association “Guitar Player of the Year”. His album “Home” won a Grammy for the Best Bluegrass Album. Billy’s parents influenced him towards music but also sadly influenced him towards alcohol and drugs. He said: “I was raised on raging, partying, playing bluegrass until 3 a.m.” One summer night in 2016, Billy’s affection for alcohol nearly ruined a gig for his band. As they rushed to their event, Billy kept getting sick, hanging his head out the van window. In great misery, he swore he’d never again let alcohol interfere with his playing. He said: “I had decided this music stuff could save my life. Music was my one opportunity — otherwise, I was going back to being a meth head, overdosing, prison. I was not going to mess this up with booze.” That night, he swore off drinking and he has yet to take another drink.
Joe Manganiello Joe played various roles on ER, How I Met Your Mother, and One Tree Hill, before landing his breakout role as werewolf Alcide Herveaux on the HBO series True Blood. In 2011, readers of Entertainment Weekly voted Joe the “Favorite Pop-Culture Werewolf of All Time”. He also appeared on the list in Men’s Health‍‍  “100 Fittest Men of All Time”. The actor revealed in an interview with HuffPost Live that he struggled with alcohol early in his 20’s. He explained how the addiction began hurting his career.  “There was a period of about four years where I needed to quit drinking. And the drinking got in the way,…I had to clean up my act and figure that whole situation out.” Joe now identifies as a total abstainer.
Jennifer Hudson In 2004, Jennifer Hudson captured the world’s attention with her soulful voice and placed 7th on American Idol. Her career took off, and opened doors for her to become an award winning singer, actress, and spokesperson. To date the singer has sold over 1.2 million albums and over 2.3 million singles. As an actress, she made her film debut portraying Effie White in Dreamgirls (2006), for which she gained worldwide acclaim and won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, a Golden Globe Award, a BAFTA Award, an NAACP Image Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award. In October 2013, in an interview with “Chelsea Lately,” Jennifer revealed this important fact to the world: “I’ve never had a drink in my life. I’m sober…”
Jennifer Lopez Known simply as JLO, Jennifer Lopez is one of the most recognizable celebrities in the world. Her music sales tally $80 million, and her movies have earned a combined $2 billion. Lopez has been very successful in her business career as well, opening various clothing lines, dealing with accessories & fragrances, and juggling a production company, television shows and a charitable foundation among other business interests. Although first impressions of her glamorous lifestyke may leave the vibe that she is an avid party girl, JLO has said she won’t drink alcohol — except for toasts, when she says she will sip champagne.
Blake Lively Known for her role as Serena on Gossip Girl, Blake Lively has become a sought-after young actress in Hollywood. In 2011, she was featured in the annual TIME magazine “100 Influential People”. People magazine named her one of 2012’s “Most Beautiful at Every Age”. Also in 2012, she was selected as the face of the new Gucci fragrance titled Gucci Premiere. In October 2013, Lively was named the new face of L’Oreal. Most recently, Lively starred in the film The Age of Adaline (2015). Lively has referred to herself as a ‘homemaker’ and names Martha Stewart as her idol. She says she does not drink or use drugs, and claims she’d much rather cook.
Bradley Cooper Cooper was nomimated for Academy Awards in three consecutive years for his acting in Silver Linings Playbook (2012), the comedy-drama American Hustle (2013), and the biographical war drama American Sniper (2014). For producing American Sniper, Cooper also received an Academy Award for Best Picture nomination. For starring in the 2014 Broadway revival of the play The Elephant Man, Cooper garnered a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play nomination. In 2011 the 29-year-old Cooper became sober and told GQ this about his substance abuse, “If I continued it, I was really going to sabotage my whole life.” In a recent interview with People“he continued by saying: “I don’t drink or do drugs anymore. Being sober helps a great deal … I remember looking at my life, my apartment, my dogs when I was still using, and I thought, ‘What’s happening?'”
Kim Kardashian The reality TV star Kim Kardashian has a long list of accomplishments to her name: spokesperson, model, entrepreneur, fashion designer and television producer. Kim is worth a reported $40 million, and she earns $80,000 per episode on her family’s reality show. She married rapper Kanye West and the couple has a daughter, North. While one would imagine life as a reality TV star requires participating fully in a swirl of parties, Kim claims that in her party-intensive family she has always been the responsible one when it comes to alcohol. She identified herself as the designated driver for the Kardashian sisters, and she told People magazine, “I do not drink alcohol at all. My sisters drink, so when they get a little crazy, I am there to pull them down.”
Tobey Maguire Although he began his career in the 1980’s, Tobey Maguire is most known for playing the spider-like superhero in the Spiderman movie trilogy. In addition, Maguire is recognized for his signficant roles in Pleasantville, Wonderboys, Seabiscuit. Tobey has been open about the fact that in his late teens he had an alcohol and drug addiction and has been in Alcoholics Anonymous since he was 19.
Kristin Davis
Kristin Davis had an Emmy-nominated portrayal as the prude yet lovable Charlotte in Sex and the City. It was truly a role out of character for Kristin. Her parents didn’t drink at all, and Davis maintained a good girl persona … but Davis later described herself as secretly rebellious. At the age of 22 she willingly admitted she had a drinking problem and wanted to be sober. Davis is a recovering alcoholic.
Kim Cattrall
The Canadian born actress has won a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2003 and received four nominations for the role of the mischievous Sam Jones. She also received two Screen Actors Guild Awards (while being nominated seven times), as well as five Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Aside from her film and TV work, Cattrall is also a stage actress, with performances in A View from the Bridge, Three Sisters and Wild Honey, Antony and Cleopatra, and Private Lives to her credit. In September 2009, Cattrall received a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame in Toronto. Unlike many of her characters’ wild ways, Cattrall has stated she doesn’t drink or do any drugs, admitting alcohol gives her a headache.
Kelly Osbourne
Daughter of rocker Ozzy Osbourne, Kelly Osbourne is a fashion designer, singer-songwriter, actress, and television presenter. During her youth, Kelly travelled with her father while he was on tour, and she lived in a variety of homes between the UK and the US. She joined her family starring in the self-titled reality series The Osbournes in the early 2000’s. She has been open about her troubles with alcoholism, pill addictions and issues with self-image. Osbourne has had several experiences in rehab which she claims helped her get clean and saved her life.
Tyra Banks
She is a world-famous model, TV producer, talk show host, actress, and author. Tyra Banks has also made the list of Time Magazine’s Most Influential People, several times. The 5 foot 10 inch beauty has a net worth of $90 million. Banks is recognized for representing a positive image for women, even stating “she was put on this Earth to instill self-esteem in girls.” Tyra has explained her past emotional struggles including much emotional abuse. When discussing her personal life, the model turned entrepreneur also points out she never drinks. In fact she says and her only taste of alcohol came at the age of 12, “and that was about it.”

Eminem  
Marshall Bruce Mathers III, known professionally as Eminem, is consistently cited as one of the greatest and most influential rappers of all time. He’s been labeled the “King of Hip Hop” by Rolling Stone magazine.  In 2008 Eminem decided to get sober once and for all. He checked himself into a rehab center and joined a 12-step program. However, he primarily credits a private counselor and heavy exercise as the factors that helped him be sober.  Eminem said, “… I started running. It gave me a natural endorphin high, but also helped me sleep, so it was perfect.”  In 2018, Eminem proudly posted a picture of his 10-year sobriety medallion on social media.

Danny Trejo
Daniel Trejo is an American actor and voice talent who has appeared in numerous Hollywood films. Trejo served time in the 1960’s for armed robberies and drug offenses. He was a champion boxer in the prison’s lightweight divisions. During his time in prison, he was inspired to sobriety by 12-Step visiting speakers who shared their own victories. After prison, Danny became an addictions counselor to pay it forward. He was randomly offered the chance to appear in a movie after an onset counseling session with a troubled actor. His credits now include over 200 film appearances yet he continues to visit and speak in prisons. Summarizing his 51 years of sobriety Danny said: ““My life is just so beautiful since I took alcohol and drugs out of it.”

Rob Lowe
   Rob Lowe is an award-winning actor, author and director. In the 1980’s Rob was considered a “teen idol” and over the decades he has been in high demand as an actor, finding his way into several iconic acting roles. He won two Screen Actors Guild Awards and has been nominated for six Golden Globes Awards plus a Primetime Emmy Award. Rob admits that as a teen actor he was regularly supplied with beer and he recklessly indulged in drinking. However, he found himself becoming addicted and making a series of terrible life choices. “I think [the] people [who] are drawn to Hollywood … are looking to fill something missing in them, and performing does that,” he says. “But then when you reach the mountaintop, you realize you’re still the same — it didn’t fill you up.” Rob gave up drinking alcohol at age 26. He entered a recovery program and embraced exercise and fitness as a healthier substitute for alcohol addiction. He has now lived 29 years without drinking alcohol.
